The Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Laws double degree permits students to undertake multi-skilling and offers diverse career paths providing high marketability in multiple legal and business areas. The Law degree provides students with professional legal skills including the ability to analyse legal material and understand fundamental legal principles; an understanding of the relationship between law and society; the skills to analyse and solve non-legal problems and specialised legal study. Depending on the Business and Commerce major selected, employment possibilities are available in areas including accounting, taxation, economics, banking and finance, industrial relations, management, government and politics.

Accreditation
Graduates from the Bachelor of Laws are eligible to apply to the Legal Profession Admission Board for admission to legal practice in NSW after undertaking prescribed practical legal training. The Bachelor of Business and Commerce (Accounting) is accredited with CPA Australia subject to completion of specified electives.

Admission

Eligibility for admission to the Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Laws is based upon the following minimum requirement:

Assumed Knowledge: HSC English (Advanced)

Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

Applicants who have undertaken studies overseas may have to provide proof of proficiency in English. Local and International applicants who are applying through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) will find details of minimum English proficiency requirements and acceptable proof on the UAC website. Local applicants applying directly to the University should also use the information provided on the UAC website.

Overseas qualifications must be deemed by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to be equivalent to Australian qualifications in order to be considered by UAC and Western Sydney University.

Course Structure

Students in this course will only be permitted to undertake the following six Majors of the Bachelor of Business and Commerce:

1. Accounting

2. Applied Finance

3. Economics

4. Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations

5. Management

6. Marketing

Each Major is available at the same campuses as they are available in the 2753 Bachelor of Business and Commerce.

Students must nominate one major and are not able to undertake additional majors or sub-majors.

Each of the Business and Commerce Majors requires students to complete all units required for the relevant Major with the sole exception that students in the Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Laws do not include 200184 Introduction to Business Law in their course because the material is covered in more detail in a combination of other units. In the Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Laws students include one elective unit in place of 200184 Introduction to Business Law.

Students are free to choose any unit from any discipline for the elective unit requirement with the exception of any unit offered by the School of Law. This means you cannot do LLB Law units and Interdisciplinary Law units such as 200184 Introduction to Business Law and 200183 Law of Business Organisations for this elective.

Students in this course will be eligible to exit early from the combined degree, graduating from the Major of their Business and Commerce degree on completion of all 24 units listed in the first six study sessions of the relevant sequence below. It should be noted that this includes the eight specified law units.

Students will only be eligible to graduate from their Bachelor of Laws degree on completion of the entire 400 credit point course.

Students seeking accreditation with the Australian professional accounting bodies should complete the unit 200488.2 Corporate Financial Management in Year 3 Autumn.
