This sub-major gives students knowledge and laboratory skills consistent with modern microbiology including standard aseptic techniques, microbial identification, microbial genetics and metabolism. A choice can be made from higher level units that offer students the opportunity to specialise in two specific microbiological disciplines as they apply to the workplace such as food, analytical, medical, and industrial microbiology.
