About this Unit
Both Jung and Freud believed there was a direct connection between how a particular psychological theory developed and one's personal psychology. Likewise they saw the specificity of place, the location of its origin as being a determinant of the 'personality' of the theory (its character and sense of direction). Life stories, case studies, narrative plots … these have become the hallmark of depth psychology. It is as though there is no psychological experience without the 'story' that supports its. The story/biography is both its context and its source of meaning.
