About this Unit
The focus of the first semester of the professional writing strand is on the basic skills that are required by professional writers in various contexts. Students should be prepared to re-examine their current writing practices as they begin to develop a professional style and attitude towards writing. In this unit students will gain experience in writing proposals, reports, letters, persuasive messages and web pages. Students will gain knowledge and develop skills in areas essential to the professional writer: researching, interviewing, audience analysing, and editing. They will also be exposed to contemporary writing technologies, in particular electronic mail, web pages and bulleting boards.
