Unit Enrolment Restrictions
This unit is restricted to students enrolled in course 1598 Bachelor of Education (Primary) - AREP which is a course specifically designed for Indigenous Australian students preparing to be primary school teachers. Prior to enrolling in this unit students must have: 1) successfully completed an approved Child Protection Workshop 2) submitted a Prohibited Employment Declaration prior to 1 June 2010 OR a Working with Children Check Student Declaration after 1 June 2010.


About this Unit
This unit is designed to consolidate and extend knowledge and skills gained in the previous units of Curriculum Studies 3: Science and Technology and Curriculum Studies 6: Human Society and Its Environment. The focus is on further developing subject matter knowledge and authentic pedagogies for teaching HSIE and Science and Technology to enhance students’ learning. A second focus will explore how field studies centres, museums and other similar educational sites can be used to enhance student learning. Integration opportunities between HSIE and Science and Technology will be explored and developed. Students will undertake 5 days professional experience in Environmental Field Studies Centres and/or other learning centres.
