Assumed Knowledge
It is expected that students will have an advanced level knowledge of communication design theories and processes and an advanced level understanding of graphic and typographic design principles. Students are expected to have an acute understanding of the expressive and functional applications of typography. A working knowledge of digital and analogue production processes and methodologies is essential.


About this Unit
This is a practice-oriented unit, designed to focus on the essence of typography in the context of contemporary visual practice. Students develop their understanding of future possibilities and directions in typography through examination of contemporary practice. It provides students with a specialized understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the graphic designer shaping written communication. Students focus on the principles and methods of typeface design and techniques for application ranging from document design to signage.
