This unit endows students with the professional skills they need as successful practising scientists and technologists. A broad range of areas is covered, including job skills (setting career goals, job seeking, advancement and promotion, further training and updating of skills, professional ethics), proficiency in written, oral and computer communication, management skills (auditing and budgeting, analysis and decision making, dealing with staff and customers), good laboratory practice (Quality Assurance and Quality Control, waste minimisation and water management, laboratory safety and Occupational Health and Safety), gathering of scientific information and basic research skills.
