About this Unit
The aim is to develop an experiential understanding of communication as a discursive practice. Students will interrogate the dominant knowledge of professional relationship practices including the notion of 'training' as a project that empowers people or sustains the dominant discourses that shape our lives. Notions of self and subjectivity are explored through the use of discourse analysis as a communication practice. Students will be encouraged to develop a reflexive awareness of the cultural narratives and discourses that invite and capture people in unhelpful ways and to develop resistance and more sustaining narratives that encourage self responsibility and agency.
